SEMI FINAL AND FINAL -
Thursday, 18th May 2017 @ The 02, London
Michael Van Gerwen won the Betway Premier league title for the third time overcoming Peter Wright 11-10 in a thrilling final. Van Gerwen fought back from from 3-0 and 7-2 down within the final on the way to clinching the title in the final leg. Peter Wright missed six match darts for victory in his first appearance in the final of the Premier League. It was also Wright's first appearance in the play offs.
The win was Van gerwen's third Premier League title in five year, following his wins in 2013 and 2016. Unbelievably, Van Gerwen has reached all five finals in his five appearances in the premier league since his debut season in 2013. In all five appearances he has also finished as league leader after regular fixtures (both phases).
In the Semi-finals, Peter Wright had survived a rallied comeback from Phil Taylor to book a place in the final winning 10-9. Taylor had recovered from 4-0 and 6-3 behind, however it wasn't enough Wright held on for victory.
Earlier in the evening, a repeat of the previous premier league night saw Van Gerwen face Anderson. Just as the result of the previous Premier League match up, the outcome was the same with Van Gerwen winning 10 legs to 7 to book yet another appearance in the final.
